Glove box installation

Hi folks.  I just purchased a replacement glovebox and installation kit for my 60 tr3.  I am confused as to how to install the screws at the bottom front (I think I have figured out the left rear and the top front holes).  It seems like the screws on the bottom at the front should go up through the dash into the bottom of the glovebox using the speed nuts.  However, the predrilled holes and the speednut holes don't line up.  Can anyone advise/help??

Thanks in advance,
Tim,

They should go up through the underside of the dash. The old repros used to line up pretty well. Can't tell about the new ones. You might have to adjust the holes assuming the top and rears are OK. Did you have trouble with the little L shaped bracket at the left rear?

Thanks John.  I'm having a bit of trouble lining everything up so, yes, I lining up the "L" bracket is problematic.  The heater water line and the defroster tube are both restricting adjustment to the left and upward preventing alignment of the hole in the back of the box with the L bracket.  My other question, about the front holes, is whether the speed nuts clip over the edge of the box and then attached by the screws upward through the bottom of the dash.  When I slipped one on, the hole in the box was about 1/4 inch farther from the edge than the opening in the speed nut.  From your earlier reply I conclude that I should drill another hole that would then align with thespeed nut opening.  Is that a correct intrepretation of your reply?  Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The heater hoses are indeed a pain in the butt. There's not much to be done about it beyond pushing and twisting once the hoses are set. One trick with the L bracket is to leave it slightly loose on the fascia support bracket then pivot it around after the glovebox is fitted.

The other idea of the glovebox front is to sand the front of the cardboard edge to draw the holes further forward and closer to the edge. Sounds like a nuisance  - it is. I did one side of my glovebox on the 3A twenty years ago but it only needed a little and since I was doing the flocking myself it didn't make a mess. This will also lessen the tightness of the L bracket fitting - but hopefully not too much.

Gloveboxes can be tricky. It's been awhile since I fitted one and the TR2 has a radio...

OK.  Thanks for the help John,   I'll keep working at it now that I know that I'm on the right track.  Many thanks.  Tim.

My pleasure. The price we pay in the TR world for having that great big glovebox is having to get it to fit!

Hey John,  Thought I'd let you know that I completed installation of my glove box this afternoon.  Everything is connected (including the L bracket).  I had forgotten that nothing on the TR is just set in place and screwed down.  I'm very happy with the final results (fit and appearance).  Thanks again for your advice!

The first thing I purchased in 2003 after the TR3 was a Glove compartment and never have figured out how to set it.  Anyone have pictures?
