Lift the Dots

There doesn't appear to be any information in the TRA judging guidlines book that addresses the correct placement of the Lift the Dots on either the the top or the hood sticks cover. I've seen a lot of pictures of some beautiful restorations with Lift the Dots pointing down but have read that they should be facing outward from the center of the vehicle towards each side to facilitate removal. What is considered correct? (new top in the works).
Thanks,

John, my 1958 TR3A has its original hoodstick cover from new and the LTD's are all up and down, rather than across. My very late TR3A also had up and down LTD's on its original hood, which looked unused because it had a hardtop fitted from new. I didn't have a hoodstick cover or original hood for TCF2650, so couldn't be certain they didn't change for the 3B's.

I recall them being up and down in the early days and always thought crossways was someone's later bright idea. It would help get the hood off with less broken finger nails !!.

Of course early TR2's had baby tenax fasteners around the back of the hoodstick covers and hoods.

Regards,

Viv.

Looking at old factory photos typically shows them vertically oriented on sidecurtain cars. TR4s are another matter...

Thanks for the feedback. The symmetry is better with the dot facing down towards the bottom edge. Now that you mention it, I bet it's from the TR4 (CT3995L) that my idea of facing them outward from the middle  came from. Down they will point and the fingernails kept short.
