Promoting TRA

I just read trthree's comment (copy below) about promoting TRA and was surprised this topic was closed before many folks had time to add to the discussion.  I can add that this is a near universal discussion in many clubs that are not inside an Xbox, Ipad, Droid, or some other cell phone technology.  My local British Iron Touring Club in NW Arkansas has had the same discussion about bringing in younger members as did the Sailing Club I belonged to 15 years ago in Grove Oklahoma; it seems some activities are just not appealing to the younger folks unless they are the offspring of current members, and even then it is a hard sell.
Remember that today's kids think anything from the 80s is an antique, most have never even seen a phone booth let alone a TR, and many a mom and pop tend to buy Johnnie his own new car as soon as he can drive, so he is not out there drooling over that rodent infested sports car in the farmer's barn.  My TR2 came from an overgrown back yard in Washington Court House Ohio many years ago after high school and after college, but today's young adults are more likely to consider an older Miata the closest thing to a classic car they would tackle.  And...that Miata is probably in the inflation adjusted price range most of us could consider when we started in this hobby.  I know a $400 beat up TR2 was the most I could afford at that time years ago, and that the price of a driving TR of any model today has hit the upward curve of the collector car price line; at least that's what the Personal Property Assessors in Arkansas think.
The best suggestion I've seen is what one of our club members does on a regular basis with his race modified Spitfire; he takes it to many local car shows whether American, hotrod, classic, or British, and invites all the kids to sit in it, crank the wheel, push the clutch, move the gearshift, and even start the engine (with close supervision, of course).  The kids love it and maybe the seed of the hobby is even planted in some of them.  I'd do the same if my poor old TR2 wasn't sitting in my own rodent infested barn awaiting its turn on the "fix-it" list.

I am guilty for a less than miserable performance on the above questions.
1) What have you done in the last year to promote TRA: I added a mention to my personal website that I am a member. I added a badge to my badge bar so when I am asked what club is that, I promote the organization by telling them about the club and the website/forum.

2.  How many new members have you introduced to TRA this past year. None that I am aware of.
3.  What have you done in the last year to bring young people to TRA and our hobby. Nothing
Summary: So I guess I get a did not meet and I am on the list for the next round of layoffs!!!!!
Sounds so much like being at work.
