vacuum tube routing
Vacuum tubes skirted around both the early metal fuel pipe clip on the thermostat and the later rubber grommet type. It's hard to tell whether the vacuum pipe originally went beneath or to the side of the fuel line clip, as you see so many cars restored "near enough".
I've heard the early metal clip was thought to contribute to vapor locks due to heat soak into the fuel pipe from the thermostat, so it was replaced with an insulating rubber grommet.

Viv.
Chris: I haven't had an opportunity until now to take additional photos of the ALMOST completed engine compartment. These photos show the routing of the vacuum line from the distributor to the threaded boss under the forward-most carburetor. The only thing missing, and noted, are the metal ties (more on order). Hope these help!

Nice engine Tags. This is a later car with push fit connections. Earlier cars with banjo fittings used the earlier clips (2 types) and had slightly different routing on the carb side.particularly TR2s (as one would expect).
Note that the bright line iscorrect. There werecopper washed steel lines fitted back when, but copper lines were extremely rare...the oil hard pipe is another example. In that case, the copper repros are great!
Most of the later 'undisturbed' later cars that I've seen had the vacuum line running in a much shallower curve in front of the bypass hose. One had the vecuum line going through the grommet (I didn't care for that). I would not mark down for vacuum lines running behind or in front of the bypass hose on later cars with push fit cabs), but might mark down an early car with the line running in front of the hose. There are no Service Bullerins on this, so once again, we have to be careful in where we draw the temporal line.
Chris: We are using the metal cable ties available from TRF , Moss and others. Approx. $15.

I suspected those were the clips. I tried to get these from Moss and they are now NA! I know TRF has been advertising them.
Thanks
Chris
pretty sure TRF has them since we needed to order more.

To TRtags,
I'm pretty much at the stage of finishing my engine bay and was hoping to see your pictures under this topic. Unfortunately the have vanished! Any more to repost?
Thanks,
Now I know what happened. I renamed and moved some of the photos. I'll try to re-post later today.
Sorry!
Thing to remember is that the 3B had slightly different routing; the vacuum lines usually went outside of the bypass hose. Shouldn't effect the clip location.
Great! Thank you Tags and John W. I did, by memory, end up routing the vacuum around the outside of the by-pass hose and did it with with the repro copper tube based on your earlier recommendation. Did the 3B have the clips that linked the vauum pipe to the fuel line also? No clips on my car when purchsed (no surprize). If so, is there a TRF order # that would be correct for the 3B?
Thanks Again,
