Interior - Door Panels
What is a judge to do with the stitched seam door panels that Moss motors was selling? Are they still selling them that way? Pressed seams are correct. Does TRF still have those? Also what do we need to do with colors? Some of the replacement panels are way off in color example being the reds. We should give deduction advise to judges for consistancy from year to year. Lastly should we indicate that a judge should be more forgiving of the condition of an original panel vs store bought repros? I remember that controversy years ago. It has poped up at VTR too. There is a general statement in the judging manual about allowing minimal wear & tear but should we be more specific?

Hello Darrell:
See the discussion here: http://triumphregister.lefora.com/2010/04/25/interior-top-hood-and-sidecurtains/page2/#post27
Regarding color, IMHO, TRA should proceed with caution when deducting points for color. While I agree that some interior trim (and exterior finish) colors don't appear correct, this entire matter is very subjective. Some years ago I attended the UK TR register international weekend. Concours judging was held in a large exhibition hall lit with high pressure sodium lamps. It was impossible to judge the color of anything. Of course natural daylight is best, but even the position of the sun in the sky can affect the hue and shade of a color.
When we draft, there will be something more specific regarding the type of wear we should allow. A little yellowing of piping shouldn't be an issue, but it shouldn't have an excessive amount of dirt in the grain...
Colors are a bi of an issue, much the same as with exterior paint. Ideally a car should be presented in a color scheme contemporary to the car that is cited by the factory, with variations allowed that are supported by a BMHIT certificate or one provided by TRA. This ideal has not been required for years, if ever, as it has been considered more restrictive than beneficial to TRA members. If a TR3B owner wants to have a tan interior or a blue top on his car, we haven't allowed our panties to wad on the issue as we recognize that people need to live with their cars more than we need to critique them. As long as the interiors have been correctly done, the colors haven't been much of an issue - unless, of course, they were leopardskin...
I would not allow the sewn seams to escape deduction on a TR4A. The deduction could be minimal, but it should be done.
Original panels should receive the same degree of scrutiny as correctly constructed repros. Neither should be brutalized. If the panels are clean within limits and in good order, that should be enough. A little fade is fine too. If the panels are mismatched between the originals and he repros one might have to give it a bit of thought...

This discussion is regarding the sidescreen cars, which have no stitched or heat sealed patterns on the door panels. Your question is regarding the TR4/4A, and perhaps will be discussed when the sidescreen manual is re-written. But then you knew that didn't you?
